North Shore Family Pet

Canine Health Care

At North Shore Family Pet Hospital, our canine care is designed to provide comprehensive long-term, life-stage veterinary care for your dog, from puppyhood through his or her senior years. We are advocates of preventative health care, and will provide tailored vaccination schedules and helpful pointers on home care that will keep your dog healthy, happy, and protected against preventable illnesses. We recommend that we see your dog at least annually for a comprehensive wellness exam.

Our canine care includes:

  • Wellness exams designed to maintain your dog’s good health, body condition and oral health
  • Health certificates, both domestic and international
  • Diagnostic testing equipment should our veterinarians need additional information to diagnose your dog’s illness
  • Professional dental care
  • Vaccine recommendations based on your dog’s lifestyle
  • Flea control, heartworm preventative and deworming
  • Microchipping so your dog can return home if he or she is ever lost
  • Specialized care for your senior dog, including bi-annual wellness exams, to detect changing health conditions early
  • General medicine services and a collaborative approach to diagnosing and managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, kidney and liver disorders
  • Dermatology care for conditions such as allergies and chronic ear infections
  • Prescription foods for medical conditions

For your convenience, 'drop-off' appointments are available if you are unable to schedule a regular appointment. Typically we ask you to bring your pet in the morning. Dr. Bannow or Dr. Shechter will do an exam and any necessary tests during the day. When you arrive at the hospital, a veterinary technician will go over your concerns and ask pertinent medical questions, including vaccination history. Please allow time for this discussion when you drop off your dog. Please bring a stool sample if requested. When we have completed our examination, we will call you to go over the diagnosis and discharge instructions.
